Cyber witch hunt?

Geez, by the looks of things lately all I think about is hair. Not true!

Since introducing TV to our house last month, I've quickly realized why it left in the first place. Besides 24, which is addicting, (though clearly representative of Fox's conservative take on the war and terrorism in general), I am kind of sickened by what I found on the evening news. No surprise, on Fox. I've hated TV news since I realized that every time I watched it, it felt like the world was caving in, and there was no hope for humanity. Now, I see it as just another entertainment business, perhaps one measly step above supermarket tabloids.

But, this new segment on Fox 12 called Cyber Sting is just plain scary and wrong. The sheriff has partnered up with some detectives and Fox 12, to go online pretending to be young girls. These "girls" find men, flirt with them, then set up a sting when they try to meet.

Last night they arrested a 26-year old male college student as he arrived at what he thought was a 13-year-old girl's house. He was met with cops, detectives, and blinding TV lights and cameras. The reporter was up in this kid's face asking how he felt about seducing minors. I found it disgusting.

When did it become OK for the media to create the news? Is the intention of seducing a minor a crime worthy of complete public humiliation? What about BEFORE someone is even charged with a crime?

Two nights ago they featured an engineer who'd attended college in Oregon, and has a family with 2 young boys. And yes, he left his house with a vibrator, some lube and condoms and headed for a 13-year old's house, but he didn't commit rape, or sodomy, and he wasn't soliciting a prostitute. Whatever he planned on doing, he thought it was consensual. In some countries, girls get married off by age 10, so it's not that it's totally socially immoral or taboo like incest. It's just not accepted here.

I am not condoning underage sex... but it seems to me that these guys are a lot less harmless than the creepy uncle who molests his young neice (or nephew).

I just got such a vile feeling after watching the segment-- if this is what we're spending our tax dollars on, not to mention our entertainment ad dollars, then this world is pretty F-ed up.

Thank goodness TV news revenues are sliding, I hope they're all out of a job soon.

I realized that I have had a Bloggy Renaissance lately, and I'm not sure why. Maybe I miss writing. Sad little wall.

I thought I was done with interior design for a while. I like how everything looks and feels in the house. Eclectic, collected, sentimental, and MINE. But, recently two people poo-pooed my lion wall. This makes me think they don't know a thing. Or, is my lion wall not as great as I think? The wall in question. This wall is in the living room; a tiny, open, 15x20 room squished next to the kitchen that functions as family room, den, living room, and office. The left (in photo) side is flanked by the bar, with two stools. It has the world's frumpiest couch (but very, very comfy), and two chairs. On the right is a picture window. The couch faces the TV. I have struggled with this wall several times. Should it be an accent wall? House a large piece of art? If so, what? Tweak

I feel a little like Tweak from South Park right now. Nope, not high on drugs or caffeine... just trying to readjust my schedule from my new job on night shift at the hospital. It's almost 2 a.m., and I can't tell if I am tired. But I don't think so. I also can't tell if I am hungry. My stomach has told me when it's lunchtime for 28 years, and it's not giving me the same signals at midnight. For the last 3 days I had popcorn for breakfast at 7:30 a.m., which was, I think, actually dinner. I started Sunday night with 3 12-hour shifts in a row, 7p.m. to 7 a.m. I'd applied for this job mistakenly back in May, thinking it was 7a-7p. But when it was the only one that I got a call for, I started to really consider it. And here I am. There are some great benefits to working night shift. The place just clears out.
