What you can tell from a town's coffee shops
It's raining outside. It's so windy all the mushy wet leaves are swirling around all over the place. I got tired of staring at my cat and waiting for the phone to ring so I came down the street to the coffee shop. I love this town! It's this quaint little shop with just me and 30 or so people stripped down to our lower layers cuz it's 80 degrees in here. I think you can tell a lot about a town from where its people get their caffeine fix.
Here in P-town, the people are all different ages, but mostly white hipsters. It's a different atmosphere than the Bay Area-- in Berkeley, coffee shops are filled with students and wannabe students. Everyone carries a backpack and meets up with a handful of others to for study groups. In San Francisco, depending on the area, they can be full of businesspeople hacking away at Blackberries, or the perfect spot for job interviews for the retail shops around Union. In Napa, there's only chain coffee shops with their upright chairs and no wi-fi. No wonder no one hangs out there! It reveals Napa's true hatred of its youth! Huntington Beach's shops are full of surfers, in for a caffeinated buzz then out to the lineup. Oh, and all the fancy surf-like people dressed in surf cotoure, there to be seen of course. Tahoe's are pretty vacant unless it's cold and snowy, then everyone huddles around the fireplaces for coffee.
Anyhoo, it's very comfy here and the couches are much better than mine.
