My new favorite word
Serindipity: The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.
Lately so many wierd little things have been happening that I am having a hard time believeing it's all coincidence.
Take last week. I went out on an interview for a story I am working on for the largest paper in the state, *yay* and while I interviewed an interesting man about this business, which happens to be a drive through coffee shop that the community took over after it's old owner was arrested for selling pseudoephedrine to meth labs from it. Anyway, I asked him who else might I talk to for more info, and he gave me the name of a man who I recognized instantly...the CEO of the company that I desperatly want to work for. I'm talking career here. Dream job. He volunteers for this shit too!
Just the week before I'd applied online for that job, and now I have this awesome opportunity to talk to the CEO-- with a legitimate reason!!
Then, I am dying to do this documentary. I got that job at the bakery to try and make ends meet while everything else falls into place (please!) and I met a guy there, perhaps serindipitously, who is all wrapped up in his own documentaries. He travels to Peru to film shamans on their trips with tourists to take ayawasca (I know that's not the right spelling, but I am feeling lazy right now) in the rain forests. The shaman is raising money for a school in his community. He's all about it, and excited to meet someone else so close that is doing the same thing. He knows all about funding, how to ask for funding... he's way ahead of me.
There's just a million little signs like this that are reaffirming me that I am headed in the right direction. I am so grateful because otherwise I'd feel completely lost at times. I am waiting for phone calls from 2 potential jobs, and an ok from my editor for my story. Meanwhile, I can't decide how I am going to follow all these little clues... do I have time? Will they all end up in the right place? I guess for now I've just gotta write them all down and keep track. Don't burn any bridges, and just keep networking. It's amazing how thins come together if you just keep at it.
