B man here we come!

Image
Tomorrow's the big day! After months of preparation and weeks of doubt that we'd even make it, somehow we pulled off Burning Man this year. Here's a shot of our camping trip a couple weeks ago, where we timed ourselves setting up our gear. The other campers thought we must have been crazy---we stayed way out in the gorge at a kiting location where people camp for weeks. We pulled up in a truck and put up a gigantic tent and shade structure, then left the next day. Ha!

Hair News

Image
In hair news today; I seem to have curly hair?! I woke up one day and decided for some reason not to do the same thing I've done to it for years: put crap in it, and blow dry it straight. Why not? I was lazy. Worked the night shift and got up in the afternoon. I knew I wasn't going anywhere, so I didn't do my hair. It's been a Loooong time since that's happened. Anyway, so a couple hours later I looked in the mirror, and it had dried curly! Weird. Oh, and it's blonde. I did that on purpose. I think I am finally starting to recover from the serious butchering by 3 separate Edward Scissor-handed stylists who turned my shoulder-length dark brown hair into a chin length hipster disaster earlier this year. Hmph. However, I have been reborn as a curly blonde, and I am not complaining!

Tweak

I feel a little like Tweak from South Park right now. Nope, not high on drugs or caffeine... just trying to readjust my schedule from my new job on night shift at the hospital. It's almost 2 a.m., and I can't tell if I am tired. But I don't think so. I also can't tell if I am hungry. My stomach has told me when it's lunchtime for 28 years, and it's not giving me the same signals at midnight. For the last 3 days I had popcorn for breakfast at 7:30 a.m., which was, I think, actually dinner. I started Sunday night with 3 12-hour shifts in a row, 7p.m. to 7 a.m. I'd applied for this job mistakenly back in May, thinking it was 7a-7p. But when it was the only one that I got a call for, I started to really consider it. And here I am. There are some great benefits to working night shift. The place just clears out. I get princess parking. The skeleton crew shares a weird bond... It's like, hi, I'm a zombie too, and I feel ya. During the day, it's easy to...

Best boat ride pic ever!

A couple of weeks ago my parents came to visit... here we are on the sternwheeler paddling up the gorge. It was my dads b-day weekend, and we got to have some of his friends over for a slumber party and steelhead BBQ! The visit was awesome, they came just in time for summer weather before we plunged, yet again, into the rainy greyness that is Portland 85 percent of the time. I love this photo--it looks like we're all little kids!
